Michael J. Belo, born in Oakland, California on January 29, 1951, received his B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1974 and his J.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1977. A member of the Colorado bar, he has been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court in Colorado, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. He serves on the board of directors of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, and is a member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee. He is the past chairman and an active board member of the Labor and Employment Relations Association, an organization of labor, management, arbitrators, and government representatives devoted to labor and employment issues.

Mr. Belo is a member of the firm's Litigation Department, specializing in labor and employment law but covering a broad variety of general litigation matters. He has extensive experience with the National Labor Relations Board and with labor arbitration, representing employees and labor unions in those matters. His article on labor law issues was published in the Colorado Lawyer, and he served as chapter editor for the supplement to The Developing Labor Law, the recognized treatise in the field.

Mr. Belo represents employers as well as employees on a wide variety of employment issues, including employment handbooks, the Fair Labor Standards Act (minimum wage and overtime laws), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, [delete "and" here] the Colorado Wage Claim Act, and the whole range of laws governing the employment relationship. In general litigation matters, his experience includes dealing with mechanic's liens, property questions such as premises liability and zoning disputes, constitutional law questions, arbitration of commercial disputes, and the other diverse needs of the client.
